Occupational practice course
Targets
The practical studies aim to deepen and expand the initial theory-guided career-relevant experiences from the theory-in-practice course with aptitude reflection through research-based learning in the interplay of theory and practice. In this sense, the student's own career choice and competence development are reflected upon again against the background of the exploration of the occupational field in a more demanding framework appropriate to the level of training.
- Modular anchoring
The occupational practice studies (BPSt) in the advanced Bachelor course is modularly anchored in the educational sciences program. It is part of the Modules 25-BiWi-BPSt Occupational practice studies for the teaching professions G, HRSGe and Gym/Ge resp. 25-BiWi-BPSt-ISP Occupational practice studies in diagnostics and support for the teaching profession G ISP.
Discontinuing Modules: Occupational practice studies in diagnostics and support (Module 25-BiWi11 for the teaching profession G and G ISP) and occupational practice studies in education and teaching (Module 25-BiWi5 for the teacher training programs HRGe and Gym/Ge).
Even though the occupational practice studies are located in the educational sciences module, they are organized, carried out and accompanied by the subjects.
The BPSt must therefore generally be completed in accordance with the chosen teaching degree:
- Teaching degree G and G ISP: theory-in-practice course in the major subject.
- Teaching degree Gym/Ge: theory-in-practice course in core subject
- HRSGe: theory-in-practice course in either subject 1 or subject 2.
- Procedure / Organization
The occupational practice studies as a combination of theory and practice comprise a course preparing and/or accompanying the practice phase (subject didactics) as well as an extracurricular or school-based practice phase, which corresponds to an internship of at least four weeks. The theory-in-practice course can be carried out as a day, project or block work placement. The attendance times at the internship location vary depending on the specific practice formats and teaching/learning locations. Likewise, the proportions of contact time and self-study for preparation, supervision and reflection vary depending on the format offered. However, all practice study formats have a total workload of 120 hours.

The decision on formats, teaching/learning locations and implementation methods is made by the subjects on the basis of the specific courses offered for the occupational practice studies!
- Internships for the practical phase
Extracurricular internships:
Placements are solicited through the subject or teaching staff, instructors, lectures, or the students themselves.
School-based practical phases:
As an exception, school-based practical phases are admitted, which are in the special interest of the schools in a practical support by pupils with at the same time given special learning opportunities for students. In this case, there are usually already specific cooperations with schools. The recruitment of internships is therefore carried out by the subject or the teaching staff, instructors, lectures. Direct acquisition and/or organization of internships in schools by the students themselves is therefore not planned.
Practical phase abroad:
The practical phase abroad can be carried out in school or outside of school. Attendance at a seminar covering all subjects and teaching programs is obligatory for preparation and support. Further information can be found here.
