Dealing with Diversity

Bielefeld University aims to recognize the diversity of the people who work, study, teach and research here and to promote their different abilities, talents and skills. The potential that arises from diversity and heterogeneity is seen as an opportunity to unleash innovative and creative processes in research, teaching, work and studies.

For this purpose, Bielefeld University wants to create an environment that is free of discriminatory structures, actions and prejudices and in which all members and relatives of the University are valued and recognized in their studies, science and administration, regardless of gender, nationality, ethnic or socio-cultural origin, religion, ideology, disability or (chronic) illness, age or sexual orientation.

The diversity policy of Bielefeld University aims to justify the institution's positive attitude towards diversity and to create a basis for action for dealing with diversity within the organization. As part of the Stifterverband's diversity audit, Bielefeld University received an award for its path towards an organisational culture that is critical of discrimination.

You can find all information about diversity at Bielefeld University here.

1 | Gender and Diversity in Research

Bielefeld University assigns a high priority to gender and diversity and implements these topics in an exemplary manner in the overall research direction. The anchoring of gender-medical and diversity-related content in clinical and medical-theoretical research is planned. Future professors should therefore take gender and diversity aspects into account in research and teaching.

2 | Gender and Diversity in Teaching

Diversity and gender aspects are systematically integrated into teaching through the binding inclusion of relevant content and learning objectives in the curriculum. Gender/sex represents a diversity category with a high relevance for action and is systematically related to other relevant diversity-related aspects. This is to ensure that all aspects that contribute to or influence the development or course of a disease are considered.
