With the KoMED programme, the Medical School OWL is breaking new ground and addressing the complex and dynamic requirements of medical practice. The aim of the programme is to actively and systematically support students in developing their own professional medical role identity, identifying individual strategies for lifelong learning and promoting the ability to reflect and think critically.

The curriculum-anchored programme offers students the opportunity to reflect on and actively manage their individual skills development in a structured way throughout the course of their studies. By setting their own goals, students can set individual priorities for their studies. To dovetail the programme with the theoretical and practical course content, the KoMED programme was designed in line with the curriculum and in collaboration with representatives from a wide range of disciplines.

Core concepts of KoMED

Tutor-led hits, so-called competence conferences, take place every semester. The skills conferences offer students the opportunity to identify and scrutinise situations or challenges they have experienced as well as study-related topics and to discuss and reflect on them in a collaborative exchange. The focus is on the influence of these aspects on their own skills development. Within the framework of individual, written reflections, so-called reflection logs, students categorise their experiences, goals and study-related topics in the overall context of their own skills development. Their personal digital competence logbook (ePortfolio) supports students in documenting their competence development, in which relevant study activities and successes can be categorised in a medical competence profile.

In addition, the KoMED programme includes framing workshops and various progress tests (not graded). The programme is rounded off by the students with a final summary presentation.
