Christian Pietsch
Welcome to my home page at Bielefeld University Library where I work at the LibTec (Library Technology and Knowledge Management) department. Much of what I do is about creating the IT infrastructure for better scholarly communication and reproducibility of research results. Naturally, this won't work without free and open source software, open access, open data, and open research. In my spare time, I curate switching.software (a guide to GAFAM alternatives), and I host the international Open Science Q&A site Ask Open Science (on a server sponsored by the Faculty of Physics).
About myself
- contact details and PGP public key (fingerprint: 3FBE 0D23 1F98 F570 FF56 EA06 194C 7A8E BE44 C523)
- my former home page as a researcher in computational linguistics (in lieu of a CV; archive link)

Projects and services I am involved in
currently
- Running the on-premises GitLab instance GitLab.UB for versioning software source code and research data, for documenting in GitLab Pages, and for project management using the Issues and Service Desk features
- Running an on-premises instance of Overleaf called ShareLaTeX.UB as a trial in collaborative academic writing using LaTeX
- BASE Search: the Bielefeld Academic Search Engine for finding research documents online, where I am looking after the OAI-PMH API as well as the monthly data dumps.
- Long-term preservation of publications and research data using Rosetta hosted at HBZ NRW
- SAFE PLN, a private LOCKSS network for digital long-term preservation (bitstream preservation only) of publications, digital reproductions, and research data
formerly
- DFG project ORCID DE: Promoting the Open Researcher and Contributor ID in Germany
- DFG project CONQUAIRE: Continuous quality control for research data to ensure reproducibility
- the Bielefeld University Library Catalogue aka Katalog.plus! or simply OPAC
- Catmandu, an emerging open-source and free modern Perl framework for digital library developers and other hackers
- PUB, the publication repository at Bielefeld University
- registering DOIs for research data via DataCite
