Change

Change of subject / Version of degree programme variants / School type

If you wish to change a subject or a version of degree programme within a school type during your Bachelor course, you must first apply for the new subject combination. In this case, you only apply for the subjects or study programme variants to which you would like to change. You can find more details on the application portal.

If you would like to change the type of school, you must apply for the complete teaching degree program. This means that if you want to change the type of school, you must apply for two subjects and BiWi for the school types HRSGe and GymGe as well as for Language and Basic Mathematics, BiWi and one additional subject for elementary school.

Content already studied in the same version of degree programme is automatically retained (e.g. if you change from English and Chemistry GymGe to Physics and Chemistry GymGe, you do not need to apply for recognition for Chemistry and Educational Sciences).

If you change the version of degree programme variants (e.g. from Basic Language Training to German Studies), you can have equivalent academic achievements recognized and may be able to apply to study in a higher subject related semester.

In case of a change of major subject in Primary school Education, please note the partly different procedure described under Change of Major Subject (G).

In case of a change during the Master's program, please note the information under Change in the M. Ed. program.

If you complete your teaching bachelor's degree at Bielefeld University and use the transition to the master's degree as an opportunity to change your subjects, study programme variants or school type, e.g. to change from G to G/ISP or your core and minor subject, further documents are required for your application to the Master of Education, in contrast to the exact continuation of your Bachelor course. Follow the instructions under Approval for External / Additional Applicants.

After your application, it will be checked whether, despite the change, your university degree is still to be assessed as relevant and which academic achievements you may still be lacking for the continuation of the changed Master's program. If you are missing a maximum of 30 LP, you can make up for the missing academic achievements as so-called alignment studies during the master's program. Even if you want to change something in your enrolment during the Master's program, you have to reapply for the Master's program following the instructions under Approval for External / Additional Applicants.

If it is already clear that you will lack considerably more than 30 LP, e.g. because you want to study a completely new subject, you may first have to go back to the Bachelor's program before you can get Master's access for the new combination. If in doubt, seek advice before applying.

If you would like to change your subjects, study programme variants or type of school during your Master's, e.g. from G to G/ISP or swap your core and minor subject, you must reapply for the Master of Education. In this case, unlike your transition into the Master of Education with the exact continuation of your Bachelor course, additional documentation is required for your renewed amended Master of Education application. Please follow the instructions under Approval for External / Additional Applicants. If you have already completed the practical semester, please follow the instructions for recognition of practical semester. After your application, we will check whether your university degree is still relevant despite the change and which academic achievements you may still be lacking for the continuation of the changed master's program. If you are missing a maximum of 30 LP, you can make up for the missing academic achievements as so-called alignment studies during the master's program. If it is already clear that you will be missing considerably more than 30 LP, e.g. because you would like to study a completely new subject, you may first have to return to the Bachelor's program before you are granted Master's access for the new combination. If in doubt, seek advice before applying.

When changing the major subject, a distinction is made between changing only the major subject within the same school type (G or G/ISP), or also the school type (i.e. from G to G/ISP or the other way around).

Change of major subject between subjects.

If you would like to change the major subject between your study programme variants Basic Mathematics, Basic Language Training and the further subject related semester, the change is possible directly at or after the enrolment in the Bachelor or also in a higher Bachelor subject related semester. To do this, simply submit the application for change of programme with the declaration for submission to the Student Office (PDF) to the Student Office. Please note the relevant deadlines for submitting the application as well as further information. In addition, if you are receiving BAföG, you should contact the Studierendenwerk to find out whether you need to take any special precautions. If you are already in the Master's program and would like to make a change, please note the information under Change in the Master's program.

Change of school type

If you would like to change from primary school to primary school with integrated special education or vice versa, you must reapply for Educational Sciences or Educational Sciences with ISP. Please note the information under Change of subject / Version of degree programme / School type. After successful application, you submit the application for change of programme with the declaration for submission to the Student Office (PDF) and then continue studying your previous major subject as a subject (change from G to G/ISP) or one of your previous subjects as a major subject (change from G/ISP to G). Thus, there is no need to reapply for your previous major subject/subject, which you are also changing. Please note the deadlines relevant for the application as well as further information. In addition, if you are receiving BAföG, you should contact the Studierendenwerk to find out whether you need to pay attention to any special features. If you are already in the Master's program and would like to make a change, please note the information under Change in the Master's program.
