With “AccessAbility – peer mentoring“, the Accessibility Services of Bielefeld University offers you the chance of getting to know other students in similar life situations right from the start of your studies. In the “AccessAbility – peer mentoring” programme, experienced students with disabilities in higher semesters, so-called mentors, also support students with disabilities, so-called mentees, who are either new to Bielefeld University or face barriers along their studies. Together they form a tandem and keep in touch throughout the semester.

In the accompanying framework programme, you can all benefit together from workshops, activities and individual counselling offers. The program starts at the beginning of each semester and runs for almost six months.

“AccessAbility – peer mentoring” is a free service offered by the ZAB at Bielefeld University and aims to make it easier to get started in university life and to break down barriers. The main aim is to provide informal advice for everyday study and practical tips on organizing studies, as well as accompanying the mentees into campus life, taking into account individual needs and thus promoting long-term academic success.

The tandem: We mediate ...... You decide!

With the help of an registration form and personal interviews, we try to bring together a good tandem consisting of mentee and mentor. In tandem, you agree together how often and in what form you will meet. They also decide on the topics and activities together. Participants and tandems can contact the project coordinator at any time with questions or problems that arise. In addition, all participants meet in the framework of the accompanying workshops, where there is room for getting to know each other and exchanging experiences.
