New Funding for Bio-Production with Microorganisms

Center for Biotechnology raises funding for international cooperative research projects
Using bacteria and microalgae to produce valuable compounds from alternative, sustainable sources: biology professors Prof. Dr. Olaf Kruse and Prof. Dr. Volker F. Wendisch are investigating this topic with their research groups at the Center for Biotechnology (CeBiTec) and the Faculty of Biology at Bielefeld University.

Center for Biotechnology raises funding for international cooperative research projects
Using bacteria and microalgae to produce valuable compounds from alternative, sustainable sources: biology professors Prof. Dr. Olaf Kruse and Prof. Dr. Volker F. Wendisch are investigating this topic with their research groups at the Center for Biotechnology (CeBiTec) and the Faculty of Biology at Bielefeld University. The researchers have received funding approval for their work within three new cooperative research projects: the international research consortia will be funded with a total of 4.8 million Euro over a period of three years.

More than 110 scientists from 18 countries and 4 continents participated in the 7th "International CeBiTec Research Conference" (September 2017) to discuss the challenges facing the exploitation of microalgae and cyanobacteria for industrial biotechnology, from biofuels to high value proteins and chemicals.

Bielefeld Center for Biotechnology CeBiTec hosted international conference on Algal Biotechnology
More than 110 scientists from 18 countries and 4 continents participated in the 7th "International CeBiTec Research Conference" (September 2017) to discuss the challenges facing the exploitation of microalgae and cyanobacteria for industrial biotechnology, from biofuels to high value proteins and chemicals. The newest developments in this highly innovative research area of industrial biotechnology will be presented. "For the first time all invited speakers are international, coming from the USA, Australia, China, Korea and Mexico. Moreover, more than 80 % of the speakers selected based on the submitted abstracts are international contributors", highlights Prof. Dr. Olaf Kruse, the organiser of this highly acclaimed conference. Prof. Dr. Angelika Epple, Vice-Rector for International Affairs and Diversity of Bielefeld University is fascinated: "This year the 'International CeBiTec Research Conference on Advances in Industrial Biotechnology', which is held annually since 2010, has reached a new dimension with favorable impacts for the international visibility of Bielefeld University."
