Access to a physics account

The Faculty of Physics operates its own Identify Management System with separate accounts independent of BITS / the University. The user name is usually the first letter of your first name followed by your last name (without special characters), completely written in lower case. The email address is accountname@physik.uni-bielefeld.de.

For example, "Jane Fiona Smith-Doe's" username would be jsmithdoe (without hyphen), the corresponding email address is jsmithdoe@physik.uni-bielefeld.de.

A login is always made with the user name, unless explicitly stated otherwise.

Entitled to a physics account are:

  • Students (including non-faculty members) working in physics working groups or taking educational courses in physics
  • Employees of the Faculty of Physics
  • Visiting scientists, also within cooperations.

Accounts will be deactivated after six months of inactivity and after leaving the university. Deactivation will be announced at least two weeks in advance by email.
